Why did it fail? Because when the transfer case and transmission were put back together, a shim was used that was too thick (which is why they stripped out the bolt holes that they charged us to repair.) In addition, the shims and other parts were installed in the wrong order on the shaft. Cost us several hundred more dollars, and we were without the vehicle for almost the entire summer.
Was quoted $650 to have a transmission replaced. Took them over a month. When we received the bill, it was over $1300, part of which we contested. We were charged nearly $100 each for two thread repair kits because they stripped out the bolt holes when trying to put the transmission and transfer case back together. Two weeks later, we thought the transmission failed again. Called the company we bought the transmission from for a warranty repair, and it turned out to be the transfer case had failed.
